Vacation Time: Wasa

We've been looking forward to this vacation for quite a while.  We loaded up our food into the trailer this morning and then we were on our way at about 9:30.  We'd bought a bluetooth speaker for our iPhone so the kids were able to listen to an audiobook on the way to Wasa.  They loved the book (Sticks & Stones - Upside Down Magic #2, by Sarah Mlynowski)

As soon as we found our campsite, and before we could get the trailer set up, Emma was playing in the dirt!  I had the kids playing X and O's with pine cones and rocks so that they stayed out of the way while we got the trailer figured out.
We'd just got things set up with the trailer when my sister, Rachel, came to our campsite!  The kids were so excited that they immediately wanted their bikes.  We got them set up and Rachel and I walked while the kids rode over to the playground.  Lennard stayed at the trailer to get a few more things set up and get changed into shorts before coming to meet us.
The kids played at the playground for a bit with their cousins and then we headed to the dog beach so they could throw stick to Missy.  Before I knew it, Emma was asking if she could go back to the trailer to get her swimsuit on.  I told her to just play in her clothes.
It didn't take long before she was swimming in her clothes!  Ben wasn't too far behind her! They had so much fun!  They pretended that they were puppies and kept throwing sticks for each other to go fetch.
Of course, we didn't have any towels with us, so when they got cold and wanted to get out, it was quite 'fun' getting them back to the trailer!
They had sand everywhere!  Thankfully, we have an outdoor shower so we were able to spray them off and get them changed into dry clothes.
Wasa is so beautiful!  We loved our campsite and getting to explore.  The kids played for a while at the campsite.  I was glad that we'd brought a lot of sand (dirt) toys!
While Lennard had a nap, the kids and I decided to walk over to Rachel's campsite and visit with them some more.  We played a couple different games (Spot It and Old Maid).  The kids loved that there was popcorn to snack on too!
After a while, I decided to head back to our trailer so that I could get stuff ready for dinner.  Lauren came with us and played with Emma... in the dirt.  They were SO dirty... but they had lots of fun!
We had such a yummy dinner together with Rachel's family.  We barbequed chicken and veggies with bbq sauce in foil packets.  We also had rice, fruit salad and corn on the cob.  YUM!
We loved getting to have Wolff's with us for the evening!  When they headed back to their site to put their kids to bed, we decided to go on a family bike ride around the campground to explore.  There is a cute kid's bike park down the road that the kids tried out.  Emma did pretty good on it, but Ben wiped out (sort of) and got scared and wouldn't try it again.  He just like running around in it instead of riding his bike.

When we got back to the trailer we decided to make s'mores.  Instead of going out to buy wood and make a fire, we pulled out our propane fire pit and got right to work on roasting marshmallows.  We tried a few different kinds - stuffing Rolos inside marshmallows and then roasting them... delicious!

To say that the kids were dirty at the end of the day would be an understatement!  Yikes!  We washed them down and got them in to bed.  Thankfully they actually fell asleep fairly quickly!

It's been such a fun first day of our family vacation and we absolutely love Wasa!
